A small request for better conversations

Please don’t send me an AI-generated reply.

I’m writing to you because I value your judgment, your experience, and your words—even when they’re brief or imperfect.

The short version

I want to hear from you.

If I ask you a question or start a conversation, I’m interested in your actual response. A generated answer may look polished, but polish is not the same as thought.

Please take a moment, decide what you want to say, and say it in your own way. Two honest sentences are more useful to me than eight immaculate paragraphs produced on your behalf.

Why I’m asking

The problem isn’t the technology. It’s the reply.

Generated messages often make communication longer while making the person behind it harder to see.

More words, less meaning

A simple point gets expanded into introductions, summaries, and filler. I have to search through a lot of text for very little actual content.

They aren’t your words

The value of your reply comes from your perspective. If a model chooses the wording and structure, I learn less about what you really think.

It’s usually easy to spot

The generic confidence, symmetrical paragraphs, and overly smooth transitions have a recognizable texture. The disguise rarely works.

Trust gets harder

I can’t tell which claims you checked, which opinions you share, or whether you read the final message before sending it.

I don’t know whether you understood me

A generated response may answer a plausible question instead of the one I actually asked. I cannot know whether you read and understood my message or simply passed it along to a model.

It can make employees feel dismissed

When a manager answers an employee’s genuine question with generated text, it can signal that the concern was not worth their own time or attention. In that power relationship, people can easily feel unheard and not taken seriously.

The work moves to me

A response can be generated in seconds, but reading, checking, and extracting its meaning still costs my time and attention.

Conversation turns synthetic

Communication matters because people reveal priorities, uncertainty, humor, and care. Outsourcing that removes the part worth having.

I could ask the AI myself

If I wanted a generated answer, I could open the same tool and ask it directly. I came to you because your answer is the one I cannot generate for myself.

What works instead

A better reply can be very small.

You do not need perfect grammar, a formal structure, or an answer to everything. You only need to be clear about what is yours.

Answer the actual question first.
Use the words you would say out loud.
Say “I don’t know” when you don’t know.
Keep the rough sentence if it already says enough.

Your rough sentence beats a polished imitation.

I’m not asking for literary brilliance. I’m asking for a real person on the other side of the conversation.
